Tape Measure is a drag & drop application designed to make the creation of html image tags easier. Specifically, it can automatically include the width and height of an image, which makes a page appear to load faster in certain browsers.
I created this application in the early days of the web, before programs like Pagemill™ and Dreamweaver™ existed, which take care of image tags automatically. Tape Measure is still useful for quick tweaks when you’re editing HTML by hand and you don’t want to have to launch a big program just to get the width and height of an image.
How to Use It:
Simply drag a GIF or JPEG image file onto Tape Measure’s icon. Tape Measure will copy an image tag (including the image’s width and height) to the clipboard, which you can paste into your html document from any text editor.
Dragging multiple image files onto Tape Measure will open a list window containing the names of these images. Double-clicking on an image name copies its html tag to the clipboard. You can also use the arrow keys to move up and down the list and hit enter or cmd-c to copy the tag.
Note: If you double-click Tape Measure's icon, it will launch and show these instructions and remain open.
Preferences:
You can decide how much of the html tag Tape Measure gives you by checking the appropriate options in the Preferences dialog. For instance, if you’ve already typed most of the image tag in your html document, but need to insert the WIDTH and HEIGHT parameters, just uncheck everything but “Dimensions” in the Preferences dialog. Now when you drag an image onto Tape Measure, you will just get the dimensions which you can paste into your existing tag.

Features yet to come:
• The ALIGN parameter.
• The ability to drag folders onto Tape Measure. (Currently folders are just ignored. You can, however drag multiple documents.)
• User-defined default text for the ALT parameter.
• A way to change the preferences temporarily for only the current set of images. (Maybe a dialog box appears when you hold down option).
• Some cosmetic improvements: add shading to windows and edit fields, get rid of the flicker in the image list window, add the animation to the about box and the animated color cursor that Colleen created.
